What to expect

Pre-arrival:  You will meet the Manos a la Obra team (virtual) and we will work with you to get prepared for your trip.  This will include recommendations for what to bring (and what not to).  You will receive information regarding your home stay and we will be able to answer any questions you might have prior to your trip.

Arrival day:  You will be picked up in Barranquilla at the airport by a member of Manos a la Obra and taken to your home stay in Puerto Colombia.  Depending on the day/time of your arrival, we can get you comfortable with your new location, get a sim card for your cell phone and introduce you to the town/people.

Day 1 of class: the principal, Wilman Perez,  will introduce you to the student body and get you situated in your classroom.  You will spend most of the first week getting to know the students and teachers.

Puerto Colombia

Nestled along the vibrant Caribbean coast of Colombia, Puerto Colombia exudes a charm steeped in both colonial history and modern beachside allure. Its colorful streets, lined with pastel-hued buildings and swaying palm trees, offer a picturesque backdrop to daily life. The town’s focal point, its sandy beaches, beckon travelers with their azure waters and golden sands, perfect for sun-soaked relaxation or adventurous water sports. Puerto Colombia’s rich cultural heritage is palpable in its cuisine, with tantalizing aromas wafting from street vendors selling fresh seafood and tropical fruits. Beyond the beaches, visitors can explore historic landmarks such as the iconic lighthouse, which stands tall as a beacon of the town’s maritime past. With its laid-back atmosphere and welcoming locals, Puerto Colombia is a captivating destination where the rhythm of the Caribbean pulses through every street corner.  The picture to the right is a beach in Puerto Colombia
